Lil B “The BasedGod” – Obama BasedGod (Mixtape)

July 31, 2012 Leave a comment

I remember back when Hip Hop was fun.

I grew up with an older brother who drilled Rap music into my head starting back at the age of 6 years old, just as he was exiting his middle school years. Hip Hop music then, and culture, by definition was much less uptight, pretentious, less concerned with cocaine, and leagues FUNNER.

Back then, The Pharcyde could include a skit in their classic album Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde called “It’s Jiggaboo Time”, which I still don’t understand its purpose today, and nobody would ask a question. Back in ’95, Ol’ Dirty Bastard (RIP) could snarl out lines like “This type of pain / You couldn’t even kill /With Midol / Fuck around / Get sprayed with Lysol”, and no one would even blink!

For better or for worse, Bay Area, California Rapper/Author/Entreprenuer/Film Score Composer/Producer/Director/Marketing-Monster/Social-Media Historical Figure/Motivational Speaker Lil B “The BasedGod” is Hip Hop at its hysterically-contemporary FINEST!

Where many are talking up their block and how tough they are, or pretending to tell stories about kilos of imported drugs they couldn’t even convert from the metric system, Brandon McCartney is MOCKING all who don’t have the balls to just be themselves, rather than embrace the fake marketing ploy that is killing Hip Hop music.

Don’t get me wrong; if you’re a dope-boy, be about that life, and feel free to talk about it. Although, in retrosepct, if you’re a guppy tryina’ gain mass in a shark tank… you might just want to take your chances pushing betas around in a fishbowl.

There aren’t going to be many rappers in HISTORY who will give us such memorable lines like “I’m twekin’ on that bitch / I’m workin’ on that bitch / she suckin’ on my dick / cuz I’m a pretty BITCH”.

Legendary.

Iggy Azalea – Me, Myself, My Money

July 31, 2012 Leave a comment

Off her one day-old Glory EP, “Me, Myself, My Money” is one of my favorite tracks from Iggy Azalea’s latest release. Grand Hustle’s H.B.I.C. came through, despite my homie Lee’s opinion (respect), and I remain on the lookout for anything new from the trillest Australian transplant in the game TODAY.

I don’t know what it is, but tough, no-nonsense, no-bullshit females are attractive AS FUCK to me. Maybe it’s just weak-minded females that turn me off, or probably the fact that I’ve been taught well by a single-mother who runs her own business and strikes the pimp hand down on shady niggas on a daily basis.

Whatever it is though, I’m ABOUT Iggy.

Nicki Minaj – Pound The Alarm (Video)

Nicki Minaj is one of those artists who I seldom admit is talented. Sure, she drops shit like “Moment 4 Life”, which, save for both Nicki and (Drake) Wheelchair Jimmy’s performances on it, is masterfully produced by T-Minus, but then she’ll turn around and give you a BEAST verse like the one on “Monster” on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West.

Here, we have one of those plentiful flat-fallen moments from Miss Minaj, but I’m sure her general, teenage, YMCMB blood-sucking audience will dig the video, which is set in Port of Spain, Trinidad, a city I visited last year and strongly recommend everyone go.

Back on topic though, here’s another overly-drawn-out single from Nicki’s last album Pink Friday … Roman Reloaded.

Off topic: when I told some of you the track “Beez In The Trap” featuring Nicki and 2 Chainz was HARD, 90% of you responded with something like, “Minaj is wack as fuck! So is wack ass Tity Boi tryina change his name and shit!”

Mercy.

Rick Ross featuring Dr. Dre & Jay-Z – 3 Kings (Video)

On the day of the release of his new album God Forgives, I Don’t, Rick Ross drops a video for the single “3 Kings”, featuring juggernauts Dr. Dre and Jay-Z. For the most part, it’s a montage of some classic and semi-recent footage of all these cats over the years. It can get nostalgic at times.

I can’t vouch for the ENTIRE album… but I will say this track is far ahead in my preference as opposed to a lot of other songs on GF,ID.

Wiz Khalifa featuring Project Pat – Still Got It

July 31, 2012 Leave a comment

Man, that’s gross…

Anyway, Class of 2006 high school graduate from Taylor Allderdice High, Wiz Khalifa, released a new track featuring Project Pat, most notably known for his work with Three 6 Mafia.

At some point in this song, Wiz Khalifa references the shoes he’s wearing by saying “what’s on” his “feet cost a thowy“.

Seeing as though lyrical content wasn’t a means for success on this song, it should also be noted that Project Pat just doesn’t sound the same without a DJ Paul beat bangin’ behind his flow.

Do what you want with this track. I downloaded it, threw it on SoundCloud, and threw it away from my hard drive. If you wanna keep a mason jar full of bath salt in a room full of children, be my guest.

Kendrick Lamar to Premiere Video for “Swimming Pools (Drank)” on 106 & Park

July 31, 2012 Leave a comment

Kendrick Lamar of Top Dawg Entertainment/Aftermath is set to premiere the music video for his latest single and one of my favorite tracks of the year “Swimming Pools (Drank)”, on BET’s daily show 106 & Park. Make sure to tune in for the  “good kid” from the “m.A.A.d city” and show support.

Most importantly, and I don’t think I’ve ever said this about any artist since I was 13 making sure Korn beat out the Backstreet Boys on TRL,  but VOTE VOTE VOTE!

If you haven’t heard this song before; GET ON IT. You, my friend, are SLEEPING.

Iggy Azalea – Glory EP (mixtape)

July 30, 2012 Leave a comment

Grand Hustle’s first lady, Iggy Azalea, drops her highly anticipated Glory EP. The project includes 6 tracks featuring B.o.B., T.I., Pusha T and Mike Posner.

In my opinion, the EP is ok. I was expecting a little more.
